Sustainable Beauty Day
- The Concept
- Sustainable Beauty Day: USA & CANADA
- Sustainable Beauty Day: FRANCE
- Sustainable Beauty Day: ITALY
Our aim is not to be the largest, but the most beautiful and ethical hair care brand in the world.
In 2010 the commitment of the Davines was further enhanced by a project developed to generate virtuous synergies between business and the environment, with concrete positive effects for the planet and salons: the Sustainable Beauty Day.
On their usual weekly closing day, the participating salons stay open to offer their clients haircuts and/or blow dry, and all proceeds, based on free donations, are given to socio-environmental projects as the creation and protection of forest areas, environmental upgrading, strengthen of communities through agriculture.
The first Sustainable Beauty Day was held in Italy, US and France followed shortly while new editions of the project are ready to start as concrete demonstrations of the Sustainable Beauty virtuous cycle...

Sustainable Beauty Day: USA & CANADA
Davines North America is pleased to announce a charitable initiative for salons across the US and Canada to celebrate our 3rd Sustainable Beauty Day, which will take place on Monday, October 7, 2013. On that day, consumers can visit participating salons and receive a cut and styling service for a suggested donation of $15 (note: suggested or minimum donations may vary).
The 2012 edition raised $62,000 thanks to the efforts of 80 salons in the US and Canada. The amount was enough to plant 5,800 fruit trees in elementary school yards and communities in Brazil. In 2013/14, we are once again partnering with The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (www.ftpf.org). As with many environmental charities, planting trees is central to their cause. But by planting fruit trees only in communities worldwide, they take an environmental project and raise it to the level of social sustainability. This “socio-environmental” duality is a beautiful fit for Davines.
OUR 2013 GOAL
With the collaboration of Davines salons, our goal is to raise $75,000 this year to fund a fruit tree planting project in the US Southwest. Davines will be the key sponsor for a project that will bring fruit trees, agricultural education and a direct, local source of nourishment to American Indian communities in New Mexico and Arizona. FTPF’s Brazil-based support teams (NGOs and civil groups) will ensure an organized effort and will help to make sure that the literal “fruits of our efforts” will be cultivated for years to benefit the community.

Sustainable Beauty Day: FRANCE
The first French edition of the Sustainable Beauty Day took place in April 2012 from 2nd to 6th and made possible to plant 2.259 trees thanks to the donations collected by 85 Davines salons from 63 different French cities.
The principle of this day of environmental and social solidarity was the following: for each euro paid at the salons participants, a tree will be planted in Indonesia to contribute to the reforestation of mangroves. To do this, Davines France has partnered with Planète Urgence.
Planète Urgence is an international solidarity association created in 2000. Since its inception, Planète Urgence developed a mechanism of innovative action through citizen cooperation: the "Solidarity leave." The association also offers more traditional action opportunities, such as donations, sponsorship and partnerships.
This partnership with Planète Urgence relies particularly on the program "My tree, my tribe." This is a community site created on April 22nd, 2010 by Planète Urgence during the Earth Day. It brings together a community of farmers concretely engaged in the reforestation project « Environment & Development program ».
« Environment & Development program », launched in 2006, is part of the campaign "1 billion trees" initiated by Wangari Maathai - Nobel Prize for Peace in 2004 and the United Nations Program for Environment (UNEP).
The donations collected through the Sustainable Beauty Day enhance the action of Planète Urgence in Indonesia. Indeed, Indonesia is a key country in the fight against climate change and environmental protection. Mangroves are a unique ecosystem, whose roots grow under water, and a refuge for biodiversity. They provide goods and services to local populations. Unfortunately, the extension of agricultural land and unsustainable aquaculture, not to mention the increasing urbanization, have severely degraded the natural vital areas.

The 2010 edition involved more that 250 Italian salons that were able to protect around 11 hectares (111.480,84 mq) of forest growing in the Ticino Valley’s Parks, Piemonte, Italy.
With the second edition held on February 13th 2012 the two divisions of Davines S.p.A, Davines and [ comfort zone ] together with the partnership of LifeGate, renewed their commitment as protagonists in favor of environment and mankind with the second edition of the Sustaibable Beauty Day.
the voluntary contribution raised was € 67,000; this amount was entirely donated to environmental interventions projects towards the creation and protection of forest areas in Italy and Madagascar. The work in designated areas have began and will continue in the form of "protection" for years to come.
Here the specifics regarding the green areas in the different location all open to visits.
Milan-Naviglio Grande, Italy: The urban rehabilitation project has given splendor to a portion of Naviglio (waterway), restored and planted with 50 native species that will be protected for the next 20 years. Sloes, Rose Canine, Viburnum and hawthorn cover today about 1 km of the exclusively pedestrian and cycle zone of the Naviglio.
Rome – Parco della Madonnetta: The project concerns two parcels of land for a total of 5,525 square meters which will benefit from recovery of vegetation and forestry for the next 10 years. The land preparation and planting design have been initiated; they will take into account the existing trees and various recreational functions of the two plots.
Madagascar: 60.327 square meters of forest will be created and protected for the next 10 years. The project is conducted in cooperation with specialized partners who will identify the varieties of plants, the ideal time and method of planting as well as support the training of local personnel. Seeds and seedlings are strictly indigenous and non-OGM.
The large and enthusiastic membership of 600 shows that the success of the 2nd Day of Beauty Sustainable demonstrates that the synergy between beauty and sustainability is possible, embraces the collective awareness and bring concrete results.
The ambition of Davines, promoter of the initiative, is already looking towards further goals, starting from the next edition of the project in the pipeline for 2013.
