HAIR ON STAGE SANTIAGO 2017 – the protagonists

We met the hairstylists that brought Davines’ soul on the stage of Santiago del Cile.

Behind the scenes of the Centro de las Artes 660, one of Latin America’s most famous cultural spaces, we asked Davines’ international stylists to give us some insight about themselves and their art.

CANDICE WYATT-MINTER

It is clear that architecture, design, nature and music are the source of inspiration for this Sud Afrincan stylist. She presented Pow, her last collection with a pop appeal seasoned with a critical spirit. “The inspiration for this collection comes from the observation of our growing obsession with media and addiction to consumerism. This is why the collection is “over the top”, bright and flamboyant. The girsl on stage pose as though they are taking selfies…. It is an occasion to reflect on how much we are focused on ourselves. .”

JAMES ABU-ULBA

Canadian stylist, James Abu-Ulba, exhibited as part of the international Davines Artistic team. His growing expertise and profile led him to win the Davines World Style Contest in 2012, with the most important magazines in the sector publishing many of his collections since then. “In everything I do, from choosing my team to choosing the products, I first have to recognize if that company follows the same morals, ethics and belief that we have. Davines believes in sustainability, family, in progressing artists forward, in giving quality products to the consumer. For us, choosing Davines was an easy decision. ”

PACO JIMÉNEZ

A stylist known on the Mexican hairstyling scene for his expertise and creativity, Paco Jiménez develops his own collections, always inspired by modern women, using the latest trends and his surroundings as creative sparks. “Dance was my career; then I met a person with a passion for hairstyling and I discovered I love this job because I can make people feel better. I make them more confident by making them feel beautiful.”

S2 ACADEMY

Ignacio Valle and Cristopher Maldonado, fresh from the Bellas Artes di Santiago area, focused on male styles and trends, a hairstyling sector growing in interest and demand. “I like the contact with people, the adrenaline. I believe that all hairstylists should always be updated, always in connection with people and trends.”

ALLILON

This English team, founders of the London-based Davines academy of the same name, is strongly focused on the technical aspects of cutting and colouring. “As inspiration for the shows we use people. This show, which is called WIGGLE, was inspired by a philosopher, Alan Watts, who stated that nature is wiggly. In his vision, humans try to put things in boxes, we try to control the wiggle. When we are on stage we try not to get stuck in straight lines and boxes, we try to be free spirits in our work and approach, it could be in the application, it could be the way that we section, it could be the way that we style the hair.”

ANGELO SEMINARA

The person everyone was waiting to see, Angelo Seminara, Davines’ artistic director, appeared for the first time in Latin America. For the 4th time winner of the prestigious British Hairdresser of the Year award, he presented his latest collection, Star Icon. “My inspiration for this show is the public. The "clou" of the show is to combine something that is from the past with something from the future. Something futuristic but always keeping women beautiful - which is my philosophy, what I believe.”
